Sociology Minor| Minor

This minor in Sociology allows students to gain a broad understanding of how social institutions contributed to the advantages and disadvantages of individuals and groups in society. The programs guides students to use critical thinking skills to understand the complex relationships between individuals and institutions and appreciate the multidimensional nature of social issues.

A minor in sociology provides students with a better understanding of themselves and others to improve their ability to navigate a diverse multicultural world.

Requirements for the Sociology Minor

Students are required to take 18 semester credits to earn their sociology minor, including:

• SO 111 Introduction to Sociology (3 Semester Hours)

• SO 338 Sociological Theory (3 Semester Hours)

Students must also take 12 semester credits from the following:

• SO 112 Social Issues (3 Semester Hours)

• SO 201 Sociology of Family (3 Semester Hours)

• SO 220 Sports Sociology (3 Semester Hours)

• SO 225 Race, Ethnic and Minority Relations (3 Semester Hours)

• SO 340 Health Care (3 Semester Hours)

• SO 345 Inequity (3 Semester Hours)

• SO 348 Gender Roles (3 Semester Hours)

• SO 400 Senior Seminar (3 Semester Hours)

• SO 250/350/450 Internship in Sociology (1-5 Semester Hours)
